Hair
Pulling
Hair
pulling or Trichotillomania is hair loss caused by compulsive pulling
out of the hair
It is a type of compulsive behaviour
or anxiety disorder, and often starts in childhood, causing
people to pull out the hair from their scalp, eyelashes,
eyebrows, or other parts of the body resulting in bald
patches
It is difficult to put a name to it, sometimes
it seems like a habit, an addiction, a tic disorder or an obsessive-compulsive
disorder
Before the hair is pulled there is an increasing
sense of tension, and a sense of relief and pleasure after the
hair is pulled out
Research into treatment has grown
over the past few years, although no one treatment has been
found to be effective for everyone
The following have
been found to be very effective:
- Cognitive
behaviour therapy
And
of course hypnotherapy is a state of deep relaxation
It is a direct way to reach the subconscious, which governs our habits
and behaviour.
